Alitalia was founded in August, 2008 with the merger of Alitalia – Linee Aeree Italiana and Air One. The newly formed airlines started operations on 13 January, 2009 with the Alitalia trademark being retained for purpose of brand identification. Alitalia now flies to 79 destinations internationally and on domestic routes with more than 2,200 flights every week.

The Alitalia Fleet

There are 147 aircraft in the Alitalia fleet. The long haul routes are serviced by Boeing 777-200, 767-300 extended range version and Airbus 330. On medium haul routes the airline runs Airbus 321, 320 and 319 as also MD80-82 and Boeing 737-400. On the regional routes service is provided by the Embraer 170 and Bombardier CRJ900.
